Method
- Step 1: Grease the baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Step 2: Cut the French bread into 1-inch cubes and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Step 4: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring every piece is soaked. Use a spatula to gently press down on the bread.
- Step 5: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Step 6: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 7: Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
- Step 8: Drizzle maple syrup over the top of the bread mixture.
- Step 9: Bake for 45-55 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set. If the top is browning too quickly, tent with aluminum foil.
- Step 10: Allow to cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve with fresh berries if desired.
