- Step 1: Start by mixing the meatball ingredients in a large bowl. Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Use your hands or a spoon to mix until well combined.
- Step 2: Form the mixture into meatballs, each about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a plate or baking sheet while you heat the skillet.
- Step 3: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the meatballs to the skillet. Cook them for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through.
- Step 4: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns a light golden color. Gradually pour in the beef broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Step 5: Once the gravy is ready, return the meatballs to the skillet and gently coat them with the gravy. Let them simmer on low heat for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Step 6: While the meatballs are simmering, prepare the creamy garlic mash. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the peeled and cubed potatoes and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. In the last 5 minutes of cooking, add the minced garlic to infuse the potatoes with flavor.
- Step 7: Once the potatoes are tender, drain them and return them to the pot. Add the milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Use a potato masher or ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.
- Step 8: To serve, plate a generous scoop of creamy garlic mash and top it with the Salisbury steak meatballs and gravy. Garnish with parsley or additional Parmesan cheese if desired. Enjoy!
