- Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons of salt, and ½ teaspoon of instant yeast. Mix well.
- Step 2: Add 1 ½ cups of warm water, 4 cloves of minced garlic, 2 tablespoons of fresh rosemary, and 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme to the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Step 3: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
- Step 4: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven (with lid) inside to heat for 30 minutes.
- Step 5: Lightly flour a clean surface and gently turn the dough out onto it. Shape the dough into a ball and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- Step 6: Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven and place the dough inside. Cover with lid.
- Step 7: Bake the bread for 30 minutes with the lid on. Then remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Step 8: Once done, remove from the Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack for about 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
This recipe is versatile; you can add cheese or different herbs based on your preference. Store leftover bread by wrapping it in plastic wrap or placing it in a paper bag at room temperature.
