Ingredients

For the Sandwich
  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup thinly sliced roast beef
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
For the Dipping Broth
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Equipment

  • Skillet or Frying Pan
  • Small saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Knife
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Cutting Board

Method

  1. Step 1: Start by heating the beef broth in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Step 2: While the broth is warming, butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread using the unsalted butter.
  3. Step 3: Place two slices of bread in the skillet, buttered side down. Layer with two pieces of provolone cheese followed by half of the thinly sliced roast beef. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
  4. Step 4: Heat the skillet over medium heat and cook each sandwich until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Step 5: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and slice them in half. Serve immediately with the warm beef broth for dipping. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

Feel free to mix and match with different cheeses or breads. You can also add caramelized onions or jalapeƱos for extra flavor.
