- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Step 3: Place the cubed French bread into the prepared baking dish.
- Step 4: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Step 5: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure they are soaked.
- Step 6: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
- Step 7: Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Step 8: Drizzle the maple syrup over the top of the casserole just before baking.
- Step 9: Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Step 10: Once baked, let it cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the casserole before baking.
