Method
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt. Whisk until fully combined.
- Step 3: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with the unsalted butter.
- Step 4: Evenly layer the cubed brioche or challah bread in the baking dish.
- Step 5: Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and use a spatula to gently press down on the bread to ensure all pieces are well-soaked.
- Step 6: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
- Step 7: Before baking, let the casserole sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
- Step 8: Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still slightly jiggly.
- Step 9: Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
- Step 10: Serve sliced with maple syrup as desired.
Notes
Make it lighter by swapping heavy cream with half-and-half. You can prepare this dish the night before and let it soak in the fridge.
