- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter with 1 cup of brown sugar. Stir continuously until bubbly and the sugar is dissolved. Add in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and mix well.
- Step 3: Pour the caramel mixture into the greased 9-inch round cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Step 4: Arrange the peeled, cored, and sliced apples over the caramel mixture in the cake pan.
- Step 5: In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- Step 6: In another bowl, beat together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 2 large eggs until light and fluffy. Add in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Step 7: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with 1/2 cup of buttermilk, mixing gently until just combined.
- Step 8: Pour the batter over the arranged apples in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Step 9: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 10: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Invert onto a serving plate.

For best results, serve the cake warm or at room temperature. You can top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat!
