Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3-4 pieces ripe peaches sliced
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Equipment

  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Paring Knife
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Step 2: In a saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Cook until it turns a deep golden brown and emits a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Step 3: Arrange the sliced peaches in the bottom of the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle 1 cup of brown sugar evenly over the peaches.
  4. Step 4: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Whisk together until evenly mixed.
  5. Step 5: In another bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and the browned butter until well combined. Then add 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  6. Step 6: Alternately add the dry ingredients and 1/2 cup of buttermilk to the butter mixture. Mix until just combined.
  7. Step 7: Pour the batter over the arranged peaches in the cake pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Step 8: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

The cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
