For the French Toast
  • 1 loaf challah or brioche bread sliced
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk whole or milk alternative
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans optional

  • Maple syrup

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Grease the baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Step 2: Arrange the slices of bread in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until well combined.
  4. Step 4: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread slices and gently press down to ensure they absorb the mixture.
  5. Step 5: If using pecans, sprinkle them over the top of the soaked bread.
  6. Step 6: Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Step 7: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning.
  8. Step 8: Remove the plastic wrap and bake the dish for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
